A female employee has sued her company, alleging racial discrimination and unfair employment practices.

DiscriminationTrishahn Perkins of Harris County filed a lawsuit Dec. 16, 2014, in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Wood Group Mustang Inc.

According to the complaint, Perkins, a 40-year-old African American woman, began working for Mustang in August 2013, relocating from Georgia to Houston to take the position of senior records specialist. Perkins was denied promised promotions and not given a pay raise promised in October 2013, the suit states, and other employees then falsely accused her of poor work performance, deleting her work files in an attempt to sabotage her.

In May 2014 Perkins was passed over for promotion again, the lawsuit says, and she was moved out of her office into a cubicle despite there being unoccupied office spaces on the floor. Perkins repeatedly complained to human resources and, instead of helping her, HR encouraged her to work elsewhere, the suit states. After requesting short-term disability leave and retaining a lawyer, Perkins was terminated Aug. 15, 2014, according to the suit.

The plaintiff alleges distress due to discrimination, a hostile work environment, harassment and retaliation by her employer.

Perkins seeks: punitive damages; front and back pay; attorney fees; expenses; and costs. Perkins is represented by attorney Martin Shellist and Dorian Vandenberg-Rodes of Shellist Lazarz Slobin in Houston.
